The end of August/beginning of September is a busy time in Reno with the Best in the West Rib Cook-Off and people headed to and from Burning Man.
We always partake in the Rib Cook-Off although this year we had to buy more than just ribs since one child went vegetarian on us.
Instead of camping in the dessert for Burning Man (which we never do), we headed off to our trailer at Buck’s Lake to celebrate the Labor Day weekend.
There we labored on the beach building islands and pizzas made out of sand. We also threw countless sticks into the water for the biggest dumb dog to not bring back.
The husband worked hard at learning how to smoke his new pipe. Yes, I really did marry an old man.
The big kid used all of her strength to pull weeds around the trailer and twist them into halos or maybe they were bracelets. Yeah, probably bracelets. My kids aren’t angelic enough to wear halos.
The little one was busy destroying everything in her path as usual.
After the long weekend, we came home to tend to the garden and the many, many tomatoes I have coming in right now.
And the first watermelon was devoured within minutes of pulling it off the vine.
After all that laboring, I rewarded myself with a Lemon Basil Sparkler and maybe a few pieces of dark chocolate because I was too lazy to make cupcakes.

Can I come steal some tomatoes? They’re one of my favorites!

She will wear it on her first day.
Please come and have some of the tomatoes. We can’t eat them all. I’ve been putting them into every meal we have had this week and I still have a shit ton of them.

What kind of tomatoes are those?
If I remember right they are Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoes.
I love that Natalie used the term “depth of field” in a comment
I have no idea what that means; I am just happy to see the Angry Birds hat come back.

Depth of field is the distance between the nearest and farthest images in a picture.
The angry birds hat is here to stay.

I am so jealous of your gorgeous tomatoes and I can’t believe you grew a watermelon! My garden was such a fail this year. I should have watered it more.

I have a few more watermelons coming in. My pumpkin on the other hand didn’t survive this year which made me very sad.

I would go nutty at a rib cook-off. And by nutty, I mean be the best sampler there ever was in Reno. I can’t get over how big L is looking lately.
I could make some mean caprese salad with those tomatoes!

Rip cook off? Where can I sign up for that? One of ours is also going vegetarian… she barely eats any meats anymore. I think I may have the biggest dumbest dog #2… she never fetches anything you throw for her. I’ve tried teaching her to no avail!!!
