On the 4th of July, we headed out to a lake sans boat to enjoy some family time (with the dumb dogs) in the water.
As you can see, things didn’t quite work out as planned.
While the boys dug in the mud, I took the girls and the dogs to the water.
It wasn’t as relaxing as I had hoped but at least we were together.
But we did get to do some stream exploring and rock throwing.
After about 2 1/2 hours of digging, the husband decided to try and make some calls. The thing about going to lakes in the mountains…they don’t get cell signal which ironically is why we love going to the lake so much.
Luckily for us, some people in a boat near where we were stuck saw our dilemma and offered to bring their vehicles over to help us.
These people have good karma coming their way. For realz. We would have been stuck in this spot for a long time without their help.
And to top off an otherwise great day, we went to see the fireworks at the only place still doing them in Reno and after waiting for 30 minutes after their scheduled start time we left with very unhappy children. Naturally, right after we got home at 10:30, the fireworks started. Assholes.
So, how was your 4th of July? Did you get to see fireworks?

And boo for stuck trucks but yay for kind helpful souls.

Oh, your poor, white truck! And oh my word. Poor you. I would be totally losing it that long, trying to entertain the kids. At least there was mud. And boaters. You should find them and make them a few cocktails.
Greta recently posted..A Letter #iPPP
I think the people that helped us had already had plenty of cocktails by the time they came to help us out with their truck.

Oh my gosh, I would’ve completely freaked out. More like, I would’ve completely freaked out on Charlie. Lucky for those people who helped you out! I think you owe them a few martinis.
Elena recently posted..Setting the Bar
I was very surprised that I kept my cool instead of freaking out although after 3 hours it was getting hard to do.
I’d be so pissed. Funny that you got some pics and a blog post out of it though.
But really? He thought the truck would make it through that?
Julie recently posted..#iPPP: Things I’m really bad at
He said he thought his truck was longer than it really was and that he didn’t turn at the right angle. But I knew he never should have tried (although I kept that to myself until after we were out).
I would get stuck like that. It’s why I’m not allowed to have a truck or drive in mud.
I DID see fireworks. I have a post about it going up sometime next week
There was hail before we saw them, though. Crazy times.
angela recently posted..Come With Me
That is crazy. I look forward to reading your post about hail and fireworks.

What a giant bummer! We did not see fireworks this year. A tornado blew through here two days before so our town canceled all holiday festivities. We had just gotten our power back after 2 days and it was over 100 degrees. We were too tired to drive somewhere else to see them.
AnnMarie recently posted..So Many Expectations
Wow. That beats the little bit of wind we had here which delayed the fireworks.

That does not sound like fun. Glad you could still find something positive in there!
It also looks like it was really hot….
Too bad with the fireworks!
Our holiday is July 1st and we went camping to get away from the crowd – just to find out there was a bush party right next to our campsite… But we were together as a family as well and it was all good in the end!
Kerstin recently posted..Pop Rocks!
It’s always a bummer when there is a party right by your campsite. At least you were all together as a family.
Nothing beats spending time with the family, even if it means getting stuck in the mud
Oh, bless those people who helped you. God obviously intervened.
Family time is always good, even if it’s in the mud.

Oh my gosh, how did that happen?! ACK!
And sorry about the fireworks. We missed big ones this year too. Well, at least I missed them anyway. I always love going to see them. Glad you had someone help you get unstuck!!

Though I’m laughing at this now I would have freaked out. And the fireworks? Come here to see them. People are STILL setting them off. Asshats.

In December, a friend did something similar with a truck, except it was a U-haul. With all his earthly possessions in it.
Apparently, you laugh later.
We didn’t get to see fireworks. There’s a place that’s less than two miles from our house, but we can’t see it for the gorgeous trees.
If we drove, we’d have to pay. Or alternatively, sit with a bunch of homeless people. They’re pretty okay…except for the panhandling and the public urination.
Maggie S. recently posted..Is That All You Got?
That would really suck to get stuck with a U-Haul. I’m glad we didn’t have that happen.
Sorry you didn’t get to see fireworks but it sounds like you made the right choice by skipping the panhandlers and public urinating.
Now those are the kind of memories that will come up at family gatherings “Hey remember that time on 4th of July?”

Oh my gosh! Thats so funny, although I’m sure it wasn’t at the time. Who starts fireworks at 1030?! That sucks that your girls missed them. Ours is typically a 30 minute show but this year it only lasted 10 minutes. Lame. Looks like you guys still made it a great 4th though!

I’m just glad we didn’t have the boat attached to the truck. That really would have sucked.
Is that new truck? Oy vey!! Sorry you had to go through that, but it looks like you made the best of it and found some very kind people along the way.

How funny! Yeah that’s one of those things that you have to wait a bit to be able to enjoy the humor in. Glad you got out safely! We went downtown to watch fireworks. It’s been so dry in our area that fireworks were banned in most areas. Wonder why the fireworks were late for you all?
Erin recently posted..Use Sparingly – DIY Foam Soap
The news that night said they were delayed because of the wind but while we were waiting there was no word of the delay or what was going on so we had no idea at the time.
Wow sounds like some adventure. Glad everything worked out and someone helped you get the truck out.

BOO about the fireworks!! We did see fireworks. or at least part of them… it’s a kinda long story (I should blog it probably… some time…) but the short version is: Hubs didn’t want us to go, I said we were going because I’d promised Goose… we ended up leaving part-way through due to very close gunshots being fired, and now we will never be allowed to go again. soooo yeah.

That reminds me of the time my dad high-centered our 8-passenger van trying to turn around in a farmer’s field… or the time my husband and I got our Jeep stuck and had to hike out to the road (because there was no cell reception there) and then hitch a ride into town and ask lots of people for help before someone had a vehicle that could pull us out… Glad someone helped you!!!
