Since I’m busy preparing for and traveling to BlogHer I have my wonderful friend Kimberly (@Mamas Monologues) here to guest post.
Hi, my name is Kim and I am addicted to the Twitter.
There, I said it. I can admit it. That’s the first step, right? But I won’t take it any farther than that. I’m sure my husband would love nothing more than for me to break away from the Twitter. He’d love for me to spend my evenings with him rather than glued to the computer screen typing away in my own little world.
But in reality? It won’t happen. I’m sure it’s annoying, spending so much time on there. But truthfully, there are so many positives to the Twitter also.
For instance, if you want to whine, you will always have a friend there to listen and give advice.
If you want to know which restaurant you should eat at next Saturday night? Twitter will be there to bombard you with suggestions.
Twitter won’t judge you. It won’t tell you that you just made the most epic mom fail ever. You will always find someone who has been there and lived to tell about it.
Looking for a recipe? Or how to fix the disastrous dinner you just made? Twitter will come to your rescue.
Twitter will step in as your own personal fashion consultant. It will tell you that your outfit is a no-go and to pair the yellow accessories with the gray sundress to make it pop.
Twitter will offer its medical advice, remedies for the common cold, and help diagnose whatever strange ailment you or the kids have come down with that day.
Twitter will help you make up words and get them to trend like “Assy” and “awesomesauce” and “douchecanoe.”
It will always be possible to have a virtual drink (or two, or ten) with a friend on Twitter. You will never be told it’s too early to start happy hour.
Twitter will make you feel normal about your baggy eyes, sagging body parts, cellulite, stretch marks, varicose veins and muffin top. And if you want to get rid of that muffin top? It will give you teammates to do it with you.
Even though the Twitter IS a giant time suck, there are many positives that come out of it.
And my husband? Well, I’m pretty he’s just jealous!
What else is the Twitter good for in your opinion?
Thanks Kim for guest posting!
Be sure to check out her blog and follow her on Twitter and be ready to tweet it up with her about how great I am.

I love me a good Twitter post. You’re right, Twitter is all that. How can anyone not love it?

I don’t understand those silly people!
I’m waving my hands in the air shouting “me, me, I’m one of those silly people!”
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
I’ve seen you around on Twitter! Just jump in more, you’ll sucked into the black hole too!
I love that I can ask all sorts of questions about Donut and have so many moms help me out. Or just say that I’m having a bad day and all these friends come running. I also use it to rant about stuff in “real” life (like today!) and I’ve got sympathetic ears and people who listen. I can whine, laugh, or cry and someone is always there and I love that I get different perspectives. I feel like I can really be myself out there.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
Same here. And I never thought that I’d ever feel that way about any form of social media. But now? I wouldn’t go anywhere else with questions or rants.

Oooh…I’ve never heard “douchecanoe,” but I like it! And I heart the Twitter too. I’m not on it as much as I’d like to be though. Dang job gets in the way of me reaching my full social media potential.

Twitter’s amazing and I agree with you on how fantastic it is. I’m just a little afraid of the addiction bit.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
The addiction is strong. But the connections made there and the support and information is amazing.
I’m truly trying to give it a chance! I actually spent some time today chatting on Twitter. It was brief, but it’s a start, right?

Baby steps. You’ll get there!

Hi Kimberly. Isn’t that what they say after you introduce yourself at AA. Or in our case TA?
Twitter: MamasMonologues

I’m not going to TA. That would mean I’m admitting I want to give up and I refuse to let go.
Twitter: bewilderedbug

“AWESOMESAUCE!!”
heh heh. I loved this
It’s all true. I think Twitter has to start a support group for “Spouses of Twitter Addicts”….but then I think they’ll become addicted to…hmmm…

Mine is already a twitter stalker.

Oh, my husband whines if I’m on Twitter every night. What about me, he says? Since we barely get to spend any time together, I feel bad. I neglect my Twitter because of this. It’s hard. I miss it when I’m gone from Twitter.
Twitter rocks!

I am not fully twitter devoted yet. I just have an occasional five minute twitter burst every couple days, but I can see the draw. I could use a fashion consultant and medical advice–I may have to spend more time there!
Twitter: MamasMonologues

Do it! You’ll get sucked in too!
Twitter is good for so many things! Seriously, where was I when douchecanoe was invented? How did I miss that?
Twitter: elenawollborg
says:
Ha! I just realized that I was logged on under Charlie when I commented. That was me. Whoops!
Twitter: MamasMonologues

Maybe you need more bubbly. And douchecanoe is an Assy word. You should use it.
I just can’t figure out how to make the most of Twitter. I think I need to spend several hours a day studying it and practicing
Twitter: MamasMonologues

I think you should. It’s so much fun!
Twitter: JenAnnHall

I am NOT addicted. I’m not.
No really. I am not addicted to Twitter.
It’s just this thing I go to MANY times throughout the day, try to come up with cute things to say and wait for responses.
No big deal.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
The first step is admitting it!
Love this.. of course it takes one to know one…. See you on Twitter
Twitter: MamasMonologues

Repeat after me: “My name is Alex and I’m addicted to the Twitter.”
I have a similar post in draft about how we just ask Twitter and Twitter answers. Anything we could ever need, Twitter KNOWS.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
I ask Twitter before I ask Google. It’s so much smarter!
Exactly! I’m going to just refer people to this post when they ask me why I’m so addicted.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
Point them this way. We’ll make them addicts in no time!
Twitter: singlelife2wife

Twitter: Rossgirl08

Yes, Twitter is great for all those things. I too am addicted to the total time-suck of Twitter! (And I think douchecanoe is my new favorite word!)
Twitter IS great for answering questions, etc. It’s bad for time wasting though!

says:
Look at it this way – You’re learning stuff and strengthening friendships. That’s not wasting time!

True story: I didn’t watch American Idol this year. I tweeted the night of the finale and asked who won. I alaso googled it on my phone. Twitter gave me the answer faster than Google. If that isn’t special, I don’t know what is.
Can we PLEASE start calling it “The Twitter”…I just think it sounds awesome.
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
I did the SAME thing with American Idol! The twitter was so much faster than google!
You’re right, “the Twitter” just sounds better! It’s become a habit of mine. I probably got it from Jessica though!
Twitter: laurenweber84
says:
I could not have said this better…so true! Twitter is so much more than a micro-blogging site. It’s like turning to an old friend for help – that’s why I am an addict too! Or, as my hubby would say, I’m just addicted to being social and Twitter makes it possible 24/7!
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
That’s so funny! Before the Twitter I was so not social. I’m completely shy. But then? I found twitter. I can easily be myself on there without my shyness taking over!
Twitter: MrsMommyMatters

Haha! Loved this. My husband hates Twitter too. He can’t quite figure out what the purpose behind it is. Men.

Twitter really is an addiction. It is funny, I had a twitter account for over a year before I really started using it. Then I created an acct for Optimistic Mom and now I have to check in at least once a day, or 100.

says:
Once a day? I check in once every few minutes! #ImAnAddict
Love your post and so true. I’ve met some wonderful ladies and if I ever get lonely or bored when the man is away… I just get on twitter.
My hubs Mistress is the Marine Corps… Mines twitter.
Twitter: MamasMonologues

See? It’s there to keep you company. Another plus side of the twitter.
i have just started getting into twitter. i’m learning, it’s SO easy to get sucked in!

It really is. I think Jessica and I are perfect examples of that!

Twitter: MamasMonologues

It’s a great support system with wonderful friends to catch you when you fall.
Love this post! Twitter is addicting, so I have had to limit my time to after the baby goes asleep (for naps and at night). It’s tough and I feel like I miss so much, but I just can’t find any other way around it. You are such a Twitter queen, though. I admire your stamina!
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
I try to limit my time too, but my phone makes it so easy for me to cheat!
I agree with your post 100%! Thank goodness for smartphones so Twitter is always within reach!
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
If I didn’t have my iPhone I don’t know what I’d do!
This is so great! I’m a twitter addict too. I love that you can get instant responses!
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
That’s the best part! You also don’t have to go hunting and reading around on google. The answers are right there within an instant.
Twitter: Twinisms
says:
I’m just getting in to Twitter and I have to agree with everything you said! It’s fun and makes me feel slightly more ‘normal.’ Thanks!
Twitter: MamasMonologues
says:
The twitter is so much fun and it certainly does make you feel more normal!
Oh, the perfection. It makes me question my entire existence. That’s how perfect you are.
But seriously. The Twitter is the best addiction I’ve ever had. Which is good because drugs weren’t doing much for me. Okay, I don’t do drugs. That part was a lie.
Twitter has been the best tool I have used to grow my blog and connect with other bloggers. I love it.
it’s so good that’s why I stay away..I’m afraid to get sucked in!
I’ve tried to stay away from Twitter but it really doesn’t work.
I heart Twitter! It’s seriously one of my favorite things in life. EVER!
Well said, Kim.
I think everyone knows I love Twitter.
